Life as we know is never linear. Things big and small change like the wind, bringing us anything from bliss to brutal pain. We hope often for something at least in between that we can laugh about life’s absurdity one day.
Among all the changes is the beauty of those who offer us glimmers of inspiration, who help us see ourselves for the dreamers we are inside - the little kids who tasted a a cookie or gelato for the first time.
Those people come as unexpectedly as they go, and vice versa.
On Friday, I found out that Nonna Pasqua, my dear former colleague’s grandmother, passed away. She would make treats for our office every Tuesday - I would hound her grandson Davide about when he would arrive (as my office ‘little brother’ he - like me - often ran late), eager for a slice of Nonna Pasqua’s amazing crostata with my coffee.
Then, came the gorgeous day when we visited Nonna Pasqua in Padova, where she lived. It was such a special day, which I shared in one of my first and most favorite newsletters.
We left, with plans of returning maybe even regularly for lunch, learning tricks for Nonna Pasqua while eating all the good things. But, as life goes - We get busy, we change jobs, we move cities, and time slips through our fingers. We think next weekend, and then it’s next month. Suddenly, it’s 2024. How did we get here? That’s a rhetorical question.
This newsletter isn’t here to be heavy (as on Mondays I am trying to keep the spirits up with my usual Weekend Things!) Rather, I’d like to ask you one thing:
For you to take a few moments to think about every beautiful soul and moment in your life that touched you, that changed you. Maybe even, take the opportunity to show up at that girl’s dinner or call the person who you’ve been saying you’d grab a coffee with for weeks.
To celebrate Nonna Pasqua’s memory, I also invite you to read my newsletter about her and the lunch we spent together, a small ode to this matriach’’s legacy.
Here, you can also see Nonna Pasqua in action with Stevie Kim and Attilio Scienza, cooking in her kitchen and pairing delicious wines with his amazing cooking.
I am sending all my love and condolences to Davide’s family. Nonna Pasqua will never be forgotten.
Wishing you a week full of many great meals and things.
Until the next slutti newsletter!
Xx,
Victoria
Sorry for your loss, Victoria. But enjoyed reading your recollection of Nonna Pasqua and the heartwarming photos that went with it.
